German Dunkel

Ayinger is a small family owned brewery about a forty minute train ride south from Munich in the town of Aying. Located in Bavaria, this brewery highlights their soft water source, and clean lager yeast strain. The beer pours a deep, dark brown with ruby hues and a slightly off white head with no noticeable cloudiness. Notes of bread, caramel, light roast, and german noble hop aromas are showcased in the nose. This is followed by flavors of biscuit malts, soft roasty bitterness, natural sugars, and a very clean finish. The beer has a medium body that really coats the palate. Carbonation levels are just high enough to have a slight presence, but don’t get in the way of the natural body of the beer. Another fantastic beer from Ayinger. I love how this brewery really showcases their water source, which dates back to the ice age. If you’re looking for a smooth beer with hearty malt notes, this is for you.
